Founded in 2002, Brian Barr Solicitors are a specialist firm of solicitors whose expertise is chronic pain and serious injury litigation.

We are expert lawyers specialising in claims involving CRPS, fibromyalgia, chronic pain, serious and catastrophic injury. Meet the team

Brian Barr - Consultant Solicitor

Brian has been a Solicitor for over 35 years, specialising in high value, complex accident and clinical negligence claims. He is a member of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL).

He has a particular enthusiasm for high profile and “cutting edge” litigation. Since winning a settlement of £1.25 million for a fibromyalgia CRPS sufferer in 1997, he has taken a particular interest in FM, and other chronic pain cases for Claimants. In 2002, Brian set up his own company, the first of its kind to cater specifically for Fibromyalgia and other chronic pain sufferers. He has successfully overseen its steady growth. In his spare time Brian enjoys sport, hill walking and reading.

Phillip Cohen - Director

Phillip qualified as a solicitor in 2006.

Alex Cohen - Director

Alex followed a career as an administrator before taking up the law in 2007. He has been with the firm since July 2009, joining us after obtaining a distinction in his Legal Practice course at BPP Manchester. He qualified as a solicitor in January 2012. He has successfully concluded many complex personal injury claims, including a number of six-figure settlements.

In his spare time, Alex enjoys playing and listening to music and is an avid reader and writer.

Steven Akerman - Director

Originally from New York, Steven moved to Manchester in 2003. He obtained his Law Degree in 2008 from the University of Manchester and completed his Legal Practice Course in 2009 at BPP Manchester. Steven then spent two years as a Costs Draftsman before joining Brian Barr Solicitors in 2011.  Having qualified in 2013, Steven has settled a variety of claims ranging from less than £10,000 to over £500,000.

Steven enjoys spending time with his family and in his spare time follows baseball and American football.

Nicky Salt - Solicitor

Nicky qualified as a Solicitor in 2013 after attaining a Distinction in her Legal Practice Course and completing her training contract in a busy firm in North London.

She had previously completed her Law degree in Manchester and, having always loved the city, returned joining Brian Barr Solicitors in February 2014.

In her spare time Nicky enjoys cooking, watching films and spending time with her family.

Katie Davies – Assistant Solicitor

Katie joined the firm in April 2013 shortly after completing her Law degree. Whilst working for the firm, Katie completed her Legal Practice Course with Masters at The University of Law before qualifying as a Solicitor in October 2019. Katie is now an Assistant Solicitor and provides support to Solicitors at the firm, helping clients with fibromyalgia, chronic pain and CRPS get the compensation they deserve.

In her spare time, Katie enjoys attending music concerts, socialising and spending time with her family.

Lucie Tighe - Paralegal

Lucie joined the firm in February 2013 and is a paralegal assisting the firm’s solicitors. In her spare time Lucie enjoys reading, ice skating and spending time with her family.

Sophie Hill - Paralegal

Sophie is a Paralegal who joined the firm in 2016. As a fibromyalgia warrior herself, Sophie can really put herself in the shoes of our clients. She understands what it is like to live with a chronic pain condition and strives to help clients get the support and compensation they deserve. In her spare time, Sophie collects Harry Potter memorabilia with her partner and two children and also enjoys reading and watching movies.

Sonya O'Sullivan - Paralegal

Sonya is a Paralegal who joined the firm in 2016 to assist the firms solicitors. In her spare time she enjoys running, walking outdoors and spending time with her family.

Chloe Durose - Paralegal

After studying law at university in Liverpool, Chloe joined Brian Barr Solicitors and is now a Paralegal at the firm. She works closely with Alex Cohen, helping clients with fibromyalgia, chronic pain and CRPS claims.

Outside of the office, Chloe enjoys reading, the theatre and socialising with friends.
